ABOUT

The Program

Kathleen Rushing, along with her many musical instruments, is available to visit your school or library or community event, or even kids’ birthday party. She sings and interacts with her audience, offering creative musical and social experiences to promote phonemic awareness, rhythm and rhyme.

Kathleen involves children in crafting new innovations to her songs, allowing for playful and meaningful language experiences. Her use of drums, whistles, wind chimes and props such as spiders, vampire teeth, kazoos and even gummie bears bring the kids into her performances.

Audiences will be delighted by her version of B-I-N-G-O and telling the story of "Little Bunny Foo Foo" with their use of rhythm and musical instruments. The kids will be singing her songs long after her visit! To insure that, her CD, Bingo Schmingo Music is given for each booking and also available for sale at performances, or on this site!

Biography

Kathleen is a retired Kindergarten teacher/Music and Movement Specialist. She currently teaches Pre-K - 2nd grade vocal music one day a week at Neil Armstrong School in San Ramon (a 50 foot commute from her house!) Prior to her retirement (yayyyy!) she taught in the New Haven Unified School District in Union City, CA. A CLAD* certified, credentialed teacher with an Early Childhood Education degree, Kathleen integrates music into all areas of  curriculum. She is also Children’s Programs Director for the California Bluegrass Association at the annual Father’s Day Festival in Grass Valley, Ca. and leads FUNGRASS! preceeding the festival.

Bingo Schmingo Music has been developed over 45 years experience playing guitar and leading children in song. Music is her passion and Bingo Schmingo Music  is a culmination of her study and understanding of the importance of music in a child's intellectual, emotional and social growth and through observation of how children learn best - through fun! Kathleen sings and plays mandolin, bouzouki and guitar in 2 Dublin, CA based bands: Extended Roots, an Irish band, and now disbanded  GrassFire, a bluegrass band
